Art ENCOUNTERS #11 吉川薫平｜Price List

Kunpei Yoshikawa creates mixed-media paintings using mineral pigments and washi paper alongside ink and painting mediums. His starting points are encounters with changing light, air, temperature, vegetation and water during travel and time spent in nature. He draws on the sensations and memories these experiences leave in the body. Layered colours and materials merge, cloud and unsettle one another, creating a fluid pictorial space. Moving between plants, landscape and abstraction, Yoshikawa centres his practice on the perceptions awakened by a subject. The material qualities of Nihonga become a means of giving form to fleeting sensations and presences that resist a fixed outline.
